Former German Village Restaurant Demolished; Here’s What Apparently Will Replace It

Some used the abandoned Long John Silvers restaurant on the corner of Thurman and South High Street to sell their barbecue; others set up shop there and sold flags and T-shirts; still others even lived in the restaurant and on the premises.

After the fast-food restaurant was closed for a decade, demolition actually began yesterday, August 26. The entire restaurant has now been razed to the ground.

What will happen to this space? According to the city’s permits, a Take 5 oil changes The operation was officially approved after initially requesting a move to this location in 2022. The new address is 1108 S. High St.

That may not sound very appealing to you – but there are more plans for the Thurman/S. High St./Greenlawn intersection, which has seen numerous car accidents that may be due to the confusion caused by the ban on turning south onto High St. from Thurman Ave. or turning north onto High St. from Greenlawn.

According to the public service bulletin on the city’s website, a $2.8 million project will improve this confusing intersection and allow drivers to turn left onto High St. from Thurman Ave. or Greenlawn Ave. The project includes traffic light improvements that will hopefully improve traffic flow.
