Foxtail Coffee announces plans to open in downtown Holland, replacing Ferris Coffee

HOLLAND – Just weeks after Ferris Coffee announced the closure of its downtown Holland location, a coffeehouse with a different concept has announced its opening in the space.

Foxtail Coffee was founded in Florida in 2016 and plans to open a store this summer.

“Foxtail Coffee offers unique neighborhood spaces that set it apart from others in the market,” wrote Alex Tchekmeian, founder of Foxtail Coffee, in a press release. “…We look forward to the Holland community grabbing a cup of coffee, finding a place to land, and staying a while.”

Ferris Coffee announced via social media on Wednesday, February 28, that its downtown Holland store will close on March 23.

The space at 55 E. Eighth St. was formerly JP’s. Ferris purchased the store in 2015, partially remodeled it in 2016 and closed it in 2017 for a full remodel.

After renovations were completed in April 2018, the east side of the store reopened—but the west side wasn’t unveiled until several months later, after Ferris announced a partnership with Michigan Awesome for the holiday season. The space was later used to display local artwork and was offered for lease in 2021.

Later that same year, Big Fish Outlet opened.

Foxtail Coffee plans to redesign the space with rustic decor, comfortable seating and a full coffee menu that includes seasonal beverages, light fare and merchandise.

“I’m excited that West Michigan is now experiencing what we call the Foxtail Experience,” said Tchekmeian. “It’s something that coffee lovers appreciate and look forward to every time they visit.”
