Mini-mart owners Sylvia Fritz Dobbs and David Fritz announced this week that they plan to sell all of their stores in Kerr, Kendall, Bandera and Gillespie counties to Fischer Neighborhood Markets. The sale is expected to be completed by the end of October.
Mini Mart convenience stores celebrated their 50th anniversary in the Hill Country last year, marking the anniversary of when Junior and Anne Fritz opened their first convenience store in Kerrville in 1973. In 2023, the chain – now run by Fritz’s children – included 18 stores with more than 200 employees.
Sylvia Fritz Dobbs said it is never an easy decision to sell a family business.
“After five decades of owning a mini mart, the family had to process a lot of pride and memories before making this decision,” she said.
The Fritz and Fischer families have known each other professionally for nearly 50 years, according to a Mini Mart spokesman, and Fischer’s Neighborhood Markets and Mini Mart share the same values.
“We both take pride in taking care of the teams and communities we serve,” the spokesperson said. “We believe Mini Mart is going into good hands.”
Fischer’s Neighborhood Markets has been based in New Braunfels since 1977 and has stores throughout Central Texas, including one on Main Street in Kerrville since 1981.
“We love the Hill Country. We grew up here, our families live here and we’re staying here,” said David Fritz. “We look forward to continuing to give back to our community in any way we can.”
