From pen to lens: A nature photographer finds true passion

From pen to lens: A nature photographer finds true passion

In the midst of breathtaking landscapes, a lonely figure often stands with a camera in his hand, trying to capture the essence of nature’s most timid creatures.

Amy Eskind, a freelance journalist by profession, combines her love of storytelling with photography, especially wildlife photography.

She moved to Utah from Washington, DC, in 2021 and fell in love with wildlife. The region’s beauty and biodiversity deepened her interest in photography and gave her a new perspective on the stories she wanted to tell, she said.

Today, 22 of her photographs are on display at the luxury retail store “The Bed Room.”

“I really enjoy photographing animals,” she said. “I like the connection. I try to create emotions in my pictures.”

A freelance journalist always on the lookout for stories, Eskind tries to find narratives that will captivate and move. When she spots a compelling candidate, she pursues them with enthusiasm and curiosity. Her stories and commentary have appeared in publications such as People Magazine, the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times.

Her move to wildlife photography has not diminished her interest in storytelling. Instead, it has allowed her to combine her talent for storytelling with visual elements. She wants each photograph to be more than just an image, but rather a story captured in a single frame.

“I went to Katmai National Park in Alaska just to photograph bears,” Eskind said. “It was phenomenal. The bears didn’t pay me any attention because there were salmon in the water. It was an incredible situation.”

The Bed Room not only presents Eskind’s animal photography, but also specializes in high-quality bed linen, mattresses and bed furniture.

The store’s commitment to quality and elegance makes it an ideal venue for art exhibitions that combine fine furnishings with works of art, said owner Scott Hollis.

“At Bed Room Park City, we believe you deserve the satisfaction of making bedtime the best part of the day. You deserve the assurance that when you pull the sheets back, you’ll sleep,” said Hollis. “Comfortable, cozy, sumptuous and invigorating, your bed should be a place you can retreat to to escape, dream and rejuvenate. Sleep should be the ultimate experience. And it can be. We’ve carefully curated one of the finest collections of luxury sleep products from around the world.”
