FSU football depth chart behind DJ Uiagalelei

FSU football depth chart behind DJ Uiagalelei

Shortly after DJ Uiagalelei intercepted a pass that Boston College nearly recovered for a touchdown, chants rang out from the stands of Doak S. Campbell Stadium.

Facing an eight-point deficit in the third quarter that would soon grow to 15, Florida State fans had had enough of their team’s starting quarterback: “We want Brock,” the fans chanted, a reference to Brock Glenn, another quarterback on the Seminoles’ roster.

Uiagalelei was a high-profile signing by coach Mike Norvell and his staff in the offseason. The former Clemson and Oregon State quarterback was a former five-star recruit with all the physical attributes needed to excel at the position. Although he never lived up to the high expectations placed on him at Clemson, he was good enough over the last two seasons, throwing 43 touchdowns and 14 interceptions for the Clemson and Oregon State teams that won a total of 19 games during that time.

But he got off to an inauspicious start at Florida State. A Week 0 loss to Georgia Tech could have been dismissed as an early-season setback in a foreign country that could be quickly forgotten. But another disappointing performance, this time at home and against the team ranked No. 14 in the ACC preseason poll, made the calls for change more understandable.

In two games, Uiagalelei has completed 40 of 69 (57.9%) passes for 463 yards and one touchdown with one interception.

Should Norvell decide to transfer, where would he go? Here’s a look at Florida State’s roster and options for the quarterback:

Who is Florida State’s backup QB?

When Seminoles fans expressed their desire for a new quarterback, they knew exactly who to turn to.

Brock Glenn is Florida State’s backup quarterback and is ranked only behind Uiagalelei on the team. Glenn is a redshirt freshman playing his second season in the program.

Although Glenn is still relatively early in his career, he has some notable college experience, appearing in five games during the 2023 season, including arguably the Seminoles’ two most important games of the season: a win over Louisville in the ACC Championship Game and a loss to Georgia in the Orange Bowl.

The 6’2″ and 215-pound Glenn had a forgettable performance in all of those encounters, completing just 17 of his 47 passes (36.2%) for 194 yards, scoring no touchdowns, throwing two interceptions, and averaging just 4.1 yards per attempt.

Despite all his difficulties, Glenn was a true rookie who unexpectedly found himself in tough situations against top 15 teams after the two players ahead of him in the rankings were suddenly unable to play due to injury.

Glenn, who graduated from Lausanne Collegiate School outside Memphis, was a three-star recruit and the No. 30 quarterback nationally in the class of 2023 according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He had originally committed to Ohio State before backing out of his commitment and choosing the Seminoles.
