The Body Shop will close 75 stores in the UK and cut 489 jobs in the coming weeks, just weeks after the company filed for bankruptcy.

The stores will be closed “gradually” over the next four to six weeks, the brand’s joint administrators have decided.

Combined with cost-cutting measures at the company headquarters, between 750 and 800 jobs will be cut.

The cosmetics retailer said 116 stores will remain open as the company considers shifting its focus to website sales and “wholesale strategies.”

FRP Advisory, which is leading the restructuring, said it would “support all affected employees with claims on the Redundancy Payments Service”.

“By taking rapid action to right-size The Body Shop UK’s store portfolio, we have stabilised the business,” said Tony Wright of FRP Advisory.

“We remain fully focused on evaluating all options to move the business forward.”

• Surrey Quays (London)

• Oxford Street Bond Street (London)

• Canary Wharf (London)

• Cheap side (London)

• Nuneaton (Warwickshire)

• Ashford town centre (Kent)

• Bristol Queens Road (Bristol)

The Body Shop was bought by restructuring firm Aurelius in November for a deposit of £117 million, with the deal completed in early January and agreed in November.
