Furball Crowley raises money for new dog park and shelter puppies

Furball Crowley raises money for new dog park and shelter puppies

CROWLEY, Louisiana – At the Rice Theater in Crowley, local pups are putting on a show to raise funds to improve their lives and the lives of pups still looking for a new family.

The Crowley Furball is an animal-friendly gala where 12 pups compete for the titles of “King” and “Queen.” Winners are determined based on the furry friend who garnered the most votes and raised the most money.

A portion of the proceeds from this year’s event will go toward funding a new dog park in Crowley. Derrick Trahan, one of Furball’s co-chairs, said the dog park was a common request from Crowley residents during Mayor Chad Monceaux’s campaign.

“We knocked on a lot of doors. Every other house has a dog, and most of those dog owners would love to have a dog park, and that was brought up over and over again,” Trahan said. “It was just a great way to get something going.”

A portion of Furball’s proceeds will also be donated to Haseya’s Animal Shelter and Crowley Animal Control.

“These dogs need veterinary care,” said Tori Hollier, another co-chair of Crowley Furball and a volunteer at Haseya’s Animal Shelter. “They need to be adopted, they need to be fostered, they need to be fed. They always need new water bowls. They always need towels and just basic care.”

Furball is also an opportunity to raise awareness about the adorable, adoptable puppies you can find right in your neighborhood.

“The more animals we can take in or rehome, the more dogs we can save and reach beyond the city limits,” Hollier said.

While the Crowley Furball Association spread the word about the event, they also shared photos of the dogs available for adoption at each shelter.

Doors to Crowley Furball open at 6pm and the party starts at 7pm.

Tickets for the event cost $20 and are available at the box office.
