Garland thieves break into gun shop with car

Garland police are searching for a group of thieves who broke into a local gun store using a Kia.

The police say that no arrests have been made yet, but they have leads.

Surveillance video shows a silver Kia pulling up in front of the mall on Broadway Boulevard shortly after 2:30 a.m. on July 19.

A man in dark clothing and a hood gets out and looks through the front window of Lateral Limits.

He gets back into the Kia and reverses.

Seconds later, others, dressed similarly, come out through the back entrance.

The driver floods the vehicle and plows his Kia through the front of the store.

The Kia makes several attempts to back out and the group streams into the store.

At one point you can see one of the thieves getting caught in the rubble as the Kia backs up.

“He had to back out with his car to basically tear down the gate. In doing so, he took down the gate, the storefront and everything else,” said Keenan Allemond, owner of Lateral Limits.

Inside, the young men with their backpacks take a quick look around the store and notice that there are no weapons on display.

The thieves grab two knives and a flashlight and run away.

When Allemond and Garland police arrived, they found extensive damage, broken glass and debris. The Kia was still parked outside.

Since the robbery, Allemond has been sleeping in his shop.

“I didn’t feel comfortable having plywood between these guys and all my savings again. So I’ve basically been living here for the last month,” Allemond said.

This week, the facade of his shop was fitted with concrete barricades and a gate locked from the inside.

“I just want people to know that our things are safe. It’s hard to get to our things. That’s the most important thing and we want the community to know that this is happening and that this is a problem. People need to be more aware of this,” Allemond said.

This is not the first time Lateral Limits has been targeted by thieves.

Allemond says this is the third break-in since his store opened four years ago.

In 2021 and 2023, the incidents were burglaries.

The owner has so far advanced the repair costs, which amounts to a total of almost $20,000.
