GAS Entec receives contract to build an LNG terminal in Jordan

South Korean liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure company GAS Entec has been awarded a contract to build the Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah onshore LNG regasification terminal at the Port of Aqaba in Jordan.

The contract was awarded to a consortium consisting of GAS Entec, the group company AG&P and the local partner Issa Haddadin from the state infrastructure company Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), which will also be the client for the plant.

The scope of the project includes the complete engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) of an onshore LNG regasification plant with a capacity of 720 million standard cubic feet per day. The scope also includes marine works, jetty works and other related components. The project is expected to be completed, commissioned and delivered within 22 months, GAS Entec said in a press release. The financial details of the contract were not disclosed.

According to the press release, Jordan relies heavily on natural gas for its energy and industrial needs but struggles with security of supply. The new LNG terminal will provide Jordan with the flexibility to source LNG from various global suppliers, ensuring a stable and secure energy source.

GAS Entec and AG&P were selected from a pool of competitors based on their solid credentials and a cost-effective solution based on GAS Entec’s state-of-the-art technology to modularize and manufacture key regasification components in Korea and transport them to project sites worldwide,” the company said.

Chong Ho Kwak, CEO of Gas Entec, said: “This project is a testament to our commitment to providing innovative and efficient solutions in the LNG sector and adds to our already prestigious list of references.”

Nishant Sharma, Commercial Head of GAS Entec and Senior Vice President of AG&P, said: “We are honoured to have been selected for this important project that will contribute significantly to Jordan’s energy security and economic development. The trust that ADC places in GAS Entec and AG&P underlines our commitment to customer-focused solutions and our ability to provide cost-effective, world-class LNG infrastructure.”

Omar Albadour, Head of ADC’s Energy Division, said: “We are privileged to have renowned LNG infrastructure partners such as GAS Entec and AG&P to implement this strategic project, which will be a milestone in our country’s continued transition to reliable energy. We look forward to commissioning the project by (the second quarter of) 2026.”

The GAS Entec and AG&P portfolio includes LNG terminals in Indonesia and the Philippines, four converted floating storage regasification units (FSRU) worldwide, two converted floating LNG storage vessels and three LNG bunkering vessels in North America, Japan and Singapore.

GAS Entec is an energy consulting and LNG infrastructure company. It specializes in end-to-end LNG infrastructure solutions, including LNG-to-Power, LNG bunkering vessels, small floating LNG terminals and LNGC-to-FSRU conversions. AG&P describes itself as a global leader in the development and operation of LNG and gas logistics and distribution solutions. AG&P provides the infrastructure for safe and easy access to natural gas in new and growing markets.

The Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) is owned by the Government of Jordan and the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA). It was established to develop strategic infrastructure in the ASEZA region in Jordan and to optimize private sector participation in its development and management in order to boost the economy and promote growth and development of ASEZA in the country.
