Gas leak leads to emergency shelters in Lathrop district

LATHROP – Residents along several streets in a Lathrop neighborhood were asked to seek shelter due to a gas leak early Tuesday afternoon.

The crime scene is located on Brookhust Boulevard, east of McKee Boulevard.

The exact cause of the gas leak is unclear, but a PG&E crew is on site working to stop the leak.

As a result of the incident, shelters have been established on the following streets, according to the Lathrop Manteca Fire District: Lazy Ridge, American Farms, Water Mill and Garden Glade.

Families picking up their children from Mossdale Elementary School were told by Lathrop police to go via Town Center to McKee and Crescent Moon or from Town Center to Gold Spike and Open Range.

Manteca Unified said the students’ dismissal was approved shortly before 2:30 p.m.

Motorists are also asked to avoid the area for the time being.
