ATTLEBORO – New gas lines are being installed along North Main (Route 152) and adjacent streets, resulting in lane closures and detours.
Eversource replaces old cast iron and bare steel gas lines with new plastic pipes.
The work will be carried out from Elizabeth Street to Academy Street.
“This work will improve system safety and reliability while helping to reduce emissions,” the city said in a statement.
Eversource has two crews working this week, one at the Twin Beech Court condominium complex at 140 North Main St. and the other doing construction on Main Street, from the courthouse to Sanford Street.
Southbound traffic into the city on North Main Street will be diverted via Elizabeth Street to Hodges Street.
Northbound traffic on North Main Street remains open.
Working hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Eversource serves gas customers on the following streets: Charles Street, Elizabeth Street, Florence Street, John Street, Merritt Place, North Main Street, Peck Street, Sanford Street and St. John’s Place.
In adjacent streets without gas customers, there may be traffic disruptions or diversions due to construction work.
Eversource will send project updates by mail or email to addresses on these streets.
Residents of Bank Street, Dean Street, Hayward Street, Hodges Street, Mechanic Street, Water Street and Watson Avenue will not receive notices of utility work when this phase of the project is performed, as this work will only affect Eversource gas customers.
This project is expected to continue for the remainder of the calendar year.
The work is weather dependent and changes to the construction activities are therefore reserved.
If you have questions or would like to receive email updates on the latest developments in the project, call construction partner Patty Shaw-Mullaney weekdays at 855-645-2427.
