Gas station employee speaks out after arrests in connection with Ross shooting

TRANSCRIPT OF THE MISSION:

“They took a life for no reason. He didn’t even do anything. He begged a lot not to be killed,” said Stephen Sunny, an employee at Gator Stop.

The McLennan County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two men accused of murdering gas station clerk Dipak Oli.

According to the documents, 22-year-old Christopher Matthew Beltran and 25-year-old Micah Nahum Harris are charged with capital murder and aggravated assault.

“The Beltran brothers are acknowledged members of the Crips street gang,” said Sheriff Parnell McNamara.

According to investigators, Matthew Porifor Beltran was the getaway driver. He is accused of tampering with evidence.

The murder is believed to be part of a series of crimes that began with a robbery at a convenience store in Hewitt and ended with the murder at the Gator Truck Stop in Ross.

“This is the culmination of a four-week investigation into a horrific series of crimes that began on July 28, 2024,” McNamara said.

Sunny told 25 News’ Marc Monroy said Oli was working the night shift when the gunmen stormed the counter.

“Man, he was a nice guy. He just worked and went home, that’s it,” Sunny said.

Oli was 30 years old and leaves behind his wife and a five-year-old daughter.

“It’s a very sad situation. A law-abiding citizen who works hard and works with his family gets gunned down by someone like that,” McNamara said.

“They depend on him because he is the only one who works at home,” Sunny said.

But with the arrest of the Beltran brothers, Sunny told Marc Monroy that justice had been done.

“I’m really happy about this… THEY GOT IT. We waited three weeks,” Sunny said.

Our neighbors here in Ross and in Liberty Hill, along with Oli and his family, started a Go Fund Me page and raised just over $51,000.
