Gas station in Chepachet stirs up frustration over allegedly contaminated gasoline

The residents of Chepachet are unhappy with a local gas station that they say sells “bad gasoline.”

NBC 10 received complaints and questions about the Yatco gas station on Putnam Pike Tuesday morning.

Customers claim that gasoline was contaminated with water, which caused vehicle problems.

Harry Dillgider of Massachusetts said he stopped by the gas station a few days ago to do some business, but it backfired.

“So, I came here and filled up the tank. Then the bike started dying, so… bah… bah,” said Dillgider.

Chepachet resident Kya Boissel said she stopped by on Tuesday morning to fill up her motorcycle with gas before setting off.

“I went to get regular gasoline. It looked a little cloudy. It looked a little cloudy. So I avoided it and switched to premium gasoline,” Boissel said.

But after leaving the gas station, she encountered a problem.

“I took it up the road. I’d say half a mile. It stalled at CVS, just completely stalled,” Boissel said. “I ran all the way back to the gas station and sat there for about two hours waiting for the manager to come in and take the police report.”

Boissel shared a video showing the fuel being drained from her bike.

She claims the drain looked like “pond water.”

“It was dirty. It was water. It was not clean gas at all,” Boissel said.

Several other residents posted in their Facebook groups, with one person saying: “My son filled up there. The car was a mess afterwards.”

NBC 10 spoke with Yatco management on Tuesday afternoon.

The vice president of retail said they were made aware of the problem on Tuesday morning and closed the regular gas pumps.

The gas station has put up signs saying “Premium Gasoline Only.”

Mechanics said draining fuel was time-consuming and expensive.

Some locals told NBC 10 that this isn’t the first time they’ve had problems with this gas station, so they’re going to go somewhere else.

“I just walk up the street and to the nearest gas station or Sunoco in Harrisville,” Boissel said.

Boissel received a refund Tuesday morning and Dillgider said he would take steps to accomplish the same.

Management said they are working to resolve the issue, but anyone experiencing problems with their vehicle while refueling at the station is asked to call the Yatco gas station at (401) 710-4488 and ask for the manager.

Some locals who have filed a report with Glocester Police are encouraging others to do the same so that there is an official report of the incident.
