Gas station in southeast Ocala destroyed by fire

A Marathon gas station on Maricamp Road in southeast Ocala was destroyed by fire late Wednesday night.

Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the Marathon Gas Station at 9433 SE Maricamp Road at 11:39 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, to locate a commercial building fire.

At this point, the 911 caller reported that smoke and flames were visible coming from the building.

When MCFR teams arrived on site two minutes after being dispatched, smoke and flames were visible on the entire facade of the 185 square meter gas station building.

According to a statement from the MCFR, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control at 11:53 p.m.

The building was searched and it was determined that no one was in the building at the time of the fire.

No injuries were reported and the cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation.
