PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Giant Eagle is selling its GetGo Café + Market locations to a Canada-based convenience store company, officials with the supermarket chain announced Monday morning.

The agreement to sell the GetGo locations to Alimentation Couche-Tard, which operates the Circle K gas stations, is expected to close in 2025 after completing the Federal Trade Commission approval process.

“This will enable future growth for both Giant Eagle and GetGo,” said Bill Artman, CEO of Giant Eagle.

Following the final sale, Giant Eagle stated that they have agreed to partner with Couche-Tard to continue the popular myPerks loyalty program at all Giant Eagle and GetGo locations. They also plan to explore “opportunities to expand the program.”

“This partnership will give us the opportunity to expand myPerks. Our customers love the ability to collect perks and redeem them for free fuel and free groceries. We are excited to see what this partnership will bring us in the future,” said Artman.

In its press release, Couche-Tard stated: “As part of this transaction, Couche-Tard and Giant Eagle have agreed to maintain and collaborate on Giant Eagle’s widely popular myPerks loyalty program.”

GetGo has approximately 270 locations in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland and Indiana. The company employs approximately 3,500 people.

In the sale announcement, Couche-Tard said it intends to “retain all dedicated GetGo store, operations and support team members as part of this transaction.” Wendell Young, president of the United Food and Commercial Workers, which represents many but not all of those workers, said the unionized jobs are secure. Under current contracts with Giant Eagle, those workers cannot be summarily terminated by a new employer.

Couche-Tard also said they plan to continue the convenience store’s “food-first” approach.
