How the Jets and Giants can give fans hope again in 2024 | New York Post

This time a year ago, there was real excitement on both sides of the New York football wing.

Jets fans absorbed every detail of Aaron Rodgers’ weekly adventures on “Hard Knocks” and dreamed of all the possibilities that would come their way. Giants fans basked in the glory of a 9-7-1 record and a playoff win and brimmed with faith in the partners of the football dream factory Schoen & Daboll.

It took four plays for the Jets’ optimism to evaporate, just as Rodgers’ Achilles tendon collapsed like a lampshade and he staggered to the turf. And as bad as that was, the Jets’ hopes for a blissful season lasted longer than the Giants’, because just over 24 hours earlier, the Cowboys had played on the same field with Big Blue and steamrolled them 40-0.

Another football season that felt like it ended before the last day of summer. The two teams had a combined 13 wins. By the end of the season, hardly any of them were remembered. By the end of the season, all Giants fans could do was cheer for Jersey Boy Tommy DeVito to keep up his Jeremy Lin impersonation for as long as possible.

Malik Nabers went to the Giants with the No. 6 overall pick. And Rome Odunze went to the Bears with the No. 9 overall pick. Most years there is top talent at the position, but these three are considered elite in terms of their potential as Day 1 playmakers.
