GO Transit service resumes at Hamilton Station, Milton Line, on Monday

GO Transit’s Hamilton and Milton lines will resume service Monday morning after work stoppages at Canada’s two largest freight railroads disrupted regular operations last week.

In an email on Sunday, Metrolinx spokeswoman Andrea Ernesaks said there would be some schedule adjustments throughout Monday “as we work to restore normal service.”

“We will have additional resources available if needed in the event of disruptions,” she said. She recommended that customers visit GO Transit’s website before traveling.

Service on both GO Transit lines was disrupted when Canadian National Railway Co. (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City Ltd. (CPKC) locked out 9,300 train drivers, conductors and shunting workers shortly after midnight Thursday.

Less than 17 hours after the lockout began, the Canadian government intervened and asked the Canada Industrial Relations Board to order final, binding arbitration, a request that was granted on Saturday.

Hamilton Station and the Milton Line were the only parts of the GO Transit network affected by the work stoppage. Service has been suspended since Wednesday evening.

“We would like to thank all customers for their patience during the work stoppage and look forward to resuming normal service on the Milton GO Line and at Hamilton GO Station tomorrow,” said Ernesaks.
