“Good talks” between Cowboys and Dak Prescott about contract extension

“Good talks” between Cowboys and Dak Prescott about contract extension

CeeDee Lamb has attracted most of the attention in Dallas, but the Cowboys are working on a contract extension for Daniel Prescott as well. Prescott is entering the final year of his contract and could become a free agent next offseason if there is no agreement between the two. Dallas would have to pay over $60 million annually to keep its franchise quarterback.

Although no deal has been finalized, Prescott claims there are “good conversations” between the two. Prescott is represented by Todd France, the same agent who pushed through the last contract extension. “Trust” was a word Prescott used when he believed something was going to happen.

“There are good conversations going on,” Prescott said Thursday. “There’s a lot of good things happening there. I have a lot of confidence in my guys and these guys to get things done.”

The quarterback didn’t give a specific timeline for when the deal might be finalized. Prescott doesn’t seem to care when it will happen, saying a few weeks or sometime during the regular season. Right now, talks are simply heading in the right direction.

“I’m not too concerned about whether it gets done now or in a few weeks, during the season or whenever,” Prescott said. “I just know the conversations are going in the right direction.”

Dallas opens the year on September 8th against the Cleveland Browns. Who knows, maybe Prescott will have signed a contract extension by then and secured his future with the Cowboys.

Dak Prescott returns to training after ankle pain

Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott was able to return to practice on Tuesday after sitting out Friday with ankle soreness. Due to the lingering ankle pain he’s been dealing with since his gruesome injury in 2021, Prescott got a little extra time off last week. The team had already planned to bench him for the first preseason game of the year against the Rams, and the ankle was another reason for them to wrap their QB1 in bubble wrap.

Tuesday’s practice is a trial for Dallas before the team welcomes the Rams back for another joint practice this week. The two teams will face off again after LA tied the preseason game 13-12 thanks to the performance of the Rams’ backup QB. Stetson Bennett.

According to head coach Mike McCarthy, Prescott will be back in full gear on Wednesday.
