Once again, Rhino is a little confusing with its authoring decisions for its audio Blu-rays, but fortunately this is one of the releases with My
preferred authoring approach that provides the listener with the ability to switch between audio codecs using the colored buttons on the remote control.

Graham Central Station: Graham Central Station Blu-ray, audio quality

5.0 out of 5

Graham Central Station offers DTS-HD Master Audio 4.0 and DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 options. The quadrophonic mix announces its immersive capabilities right from the energetic a cappella opening tune, with the masses of voices clearly surrounding the listener from all four channels. And indeed, this entire album seems to favor constant output from all four speakers, rather than the more intermittent involvement of the rear channels that I’ve seen mentioned in at least a few other Quadio reviews. Voices in particular are consistently positioned in all four speakers, and the driving instrumentation is also nicely spread across the soundstage, although the drums are heard more toward the back. Graham’s “punch-happy” bass work adds considerable oomph to the low end.
