Groups join forces to help Montgomery veteran repair his home

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (WSFA) – Thanks to a collaborative effort, some much-needed repairs were made to a veteran’s home in Montgomery.

Terry Jackson’s house needed a major renovation, so workers arrived early Thursday to do a major renovation. They spent the day replacing the roof, painting, and doing exterior renovations and yard work.

“I’m just grateful. I thank God for what they do for me,” said Jackson, who served in the Army and was deployed to Iraq.

The work was made possible by several groups, including Home Depot, Veterans Helping Veterans, Rebuilding Together, Sweetpea Homes, Armed Services and Veterans Affairs of NAACP, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

“We happened to have a veteran come to us who needed a roof repaired and some cosmetic work on his exterior, so we were able to come in and do our part,” said James Lovejoy, president of the Montgomery Lions Club.

Lovejoy is also an Army veteran and said he was happy to be able to help a fellow soldier.

“I’m a retired veteran. That could be me. Helping a veteran, knowing that they are not forgotten, and seeing the excitement in them and their family means the world to me and is contagious,” he said.

Jackson is ready to give back himself and says he would like to help repair other veterans’ homes.

“I love seeing people help veterans. I feel like veterans build the community and keep things going. So I’m just grateful for what they do for the veterans.”

If you know a veteran who needs help, you can contact the Montgomery Lions Club and let them know.
