Gunman targets Jeep outside gas station in Philadelphia – NBC10 Philadelphia

A young man was shot overnight in his vehicle in the parking lot of a gas station in northeast Philadelphia. Police said it was a targeted attack.

Police found the 21-year-old man shortly after midnight on August 15, 2024, next to a Jeep in the parking lot of the Exxon gas station on Torresdale Avenue – near Cottman Avenue – bleeding from a gunshot wound to the back, said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Police arrested the man and took him to hospital, where he is in stable condition, Small said.

Investigators began looking for clues. They found evidence that at least eight shots had been fired at the man’s Jeep. The SUV had several bullet holes in the driver’s door, some of which shattered the windows.

After the shots were fired, the man on the passenger side fell out of the Jeep, police said.

“It seems like they’re targeting the Jeep,” Small said.

The Jeep had just arrived at the gas station convenience store when either the driver or passenger got out to go into the store when someone approached the Jeep and opened fire on it, Small said. It was unclear if the driver or the passenger was the one who was shot.

The shooter – who was wearing a hoodie – appeared to be about 5 feet 8 inches tall, Small said. He was last seen running away on Friendship Street.

Police hoped surveillance videos would help with the investigation.
