American Dream will soon be home to Asian supermarket chain H Mart’s largest food hall in the Northeast.

The 16,000-square-foot expansion at Megacenter East Rutherford is scheduled to open August 30. It will complement the brand’s existing retail store and feature food from nearly a dozen popular Asian fast-casual restaurants.

According to American Dream and H Mart, the space will feature:

• K-Town Hero: Spicy Bulgogi Beef Brisket, Fried Chicken and Gochujang Pork Belly prepared by Michelin Star Chef Hooni Kim (Owner of Danji in NYC)
• The Bao: Noodles, soup dumplings and dim sum
• Sang’s Tofu & Grill: Traditional Korean food from the renowned founder of Midori Sushi, Food Avenue and Sang’s Kitchen
• Gold Miss: Donuts, hot dogs, ice cream, frozen yogurt and slush drinks
• Gong Cha: Premium tea, bubble tea and coffee made from fresh milk and the highest quality ingredients
• Grilled chicken: Fried chicken with various spicy sauces
• Jeong’s Noodle: Pasta, seafood and chicken dishes
• WokBar: Individual meals with a variety of tasty and fresh ingredients
• Every day: Artisanal bakery with a selection of cakes, pastries, sandwiches and handmade drinks
• Pizza Hut: Japanese curry, takoyaki, tempura and karaage
• Let them talk: Draft beers, craft cocktails and Korean drinks

Vendors also include Art Box, a popular Korean brand known for its trendy and creative stationery, accessories and lifestyle products for all ages.

For gourmets

As part of the grand opening, H Mart will be giving away mugs and shopping bags and hosting traditional Asian performances such as Koran percussion music and Chinese lion dances. There will also be free face painting and free balloons for children all weekend long in Hall A, Level 1, near H Mart.

Founded 40 years ago in Queens, NY, H Mart sells Asian groceries, household goods and everyday items, as well as a range of Western foods, local produce, meat and seafood.

Since then, the business has grown from one store to nearly 100 locations across the United States. Locally, there are H Mart locations in Little Ferry, Paramus, Cherry Hill, Edison, Fort Lee, Leonia, and Ridgefield. The chain was added to the American Dream lineup in February 2023.

Stacey Kwon, president of H Mart, said the company is excited to bring its food hall experience to the Meadowlands.

“Our food halls are iconic features of H Mart stores and our American Dream location would not be complete without them. The opening of another food hall will further enhance H Mart’s premium, unique guest experience at American Dream,” said Kwon.

Bryan Gaus, senior vice president and general manager of American Dream, added, “We are thrilled to open the Food Hall at H Mart, which will feature a diverse selection of tempting cuisines.”

Gaus believes that the upcoming opening of H Mart will help establish itself as a “must-visit destination for foodies,” as it will offer over 50 additional dining options from cuisines around the world, such as Italian, Peruvian and Chinese.

H Mart is open Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
