Police are warning users of the Sligo Creek Park walking trail that there have been half a dozen incidents of sexual abuse since last month.

They all occurred in the Takoma Park area and all appear to have involved the same tall man.

News4 is not revealing her identity, but the victim in the latest incident says she was jogging along a narrow section of the Sligo Creek Trail near Carroll Avenue around 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning when she instinctively sensed that the tall, shirtless man walking toward her meant trouble.

“All my senses knew I wasn’t safe,” she said.

The 46-year-old runner told police that the man exposed himself to her and then ran from the area.

Police at National Capital Park in Maryland said six similar incidents have been reported since July 14. They are urging people to be vigilant and to call the agency’s hotline if they see anything suspicious.

“The August 17 incident, which occurred last Saturday, occurred in the morning hours between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m., but several others also occurred in the evening, between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m.,” said Lt. Charles Smith of the Maryland National Park Police.

The victim in Saturday’s incident was able to give police a detailed description: She said the man was in his mid-20s and tall, between 6’3″ and 6’4″ tall, with a thin build and medium skin tone. She said he was clean-shaven, had short dark hair and was wearing only camouflage shorts and white Crocs shoes.

The Maryland National Capital Park Police have deployed additional patrols in the area and have reached out to their counterparts in Montgomery County, Prince George’s County and the Takoma Park Police.
