A hateful cyclist attacked an elderly man in Central Park and shouted at him: “Damn Jew!” – according to authorities, the number of hate crimes against Jewish victims in the Big Apple continues to rise.

The perpetrator approached the 70-year-old victim from behind shortly after 6 p.m. on July 13 on West Drive near the 97th Street Transverse on the Upper West Side, police said late Thursday.

He then struck the older victim on the upper body and fumed: “Damned Jew!”, police and sources said.

A video released by the NYPD shows the attacker riding his bicycle south.

The attacker, who is still on the run, is described as a slim man with medium skin tone who was last seen wearing an orange baseball cap, a white T-shirt, black pants and black sneakers and was carrying a shoulder bag, police said.

The victim suffered minor injuries and was not taken to hospital.

The unit’s hate crimes task force is investigating the incident, police said.

In July alone, the task force investigated 30 anti-Semitic crimes, compared to just 10 in the same period last year, according to data released earlier this week.

According to the data, anti-Semitic hate crimes made up the majority of the 52 hate crimes the agency investigated last month.

The NYPD investigated 48 hate crimes in July 2023.
