HCHSA approves stadium renovations for Minute Maid Park and Toyota Center

Astros and Rockets fans rejoice! Improvements may be in store at two of Houston’s most popular sports venues.

On Tuesday, the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority Board of Directors voted to hire a firm to assess the condition of facilities at Minute Maid Park and Toyota Center, the home stadiums of the Houston Astros and Houston Rockets.

The results of these assessments will provide HCSA with information on what renovations will be needed at Minute Maid Park (opened in 2000) and Toyota Center (opened in 2003) in the coming years.

In addition to the assessments, HCHSA also approved investments in the rehabilitation of both stadiums. These investments will ensure that the venues are up to date compared to other stadiums across the country.

The dates for the assessments and subsequent renovations will be decided at a later date.

“Houston has a strong sports brand and hosts some of the area’s best sporting events, which in turn have a tremendous economic impact throughout the region,” said J. Kent Friedman, chairman of the HCHSA Board of Directors. “The tourism and business communities see increased revenue when we receive these contracts, and we intend to continue hosting prestigious sporting events for years to come.”
