Higher temperatures before heavy rains may occur later this week

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Today will bring plenty of sunshine, highs will average around 30 degrees, with a light breeze blowing from the southeast. Skies will remain clear overnight, with lows dropping to 10 to 15 degrees by daybreak Tuesday. Tuesday will be a little hotter, with highs around 32 degrees. Clouds will form and humidity will increase by Wednesday, with highs reaching 30 to 35 degrees, with light gusts from the southeast over 20 mph.

We are monitoring the Gulf of Mexico for the possible development of what will become Tropical Storm Francine. The track of this tropical system will move northeastward late this week. This system has the potential to bring drenching, beneficial rains to the Tennessee Valley on Thursday and Friday. Model forecasts show rainfall between 1 and 3 inches by Saturday morning. In addition to the threat of heavy rain, we will continue to monitor the possibility of a strong to severe storm for the end of the work week.
