The North Elba-Lake Placid Board of Review heard a proposal Wednesday for a new hockey-themed arcade and restaurant planned for Main Street.

Resident Kristeen Colby has applied for a permit to open the arcade in the basement of 2663 Main St., where Mito Japanese Steakhouse currently stands. The arcade will serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages with hockey themes. Initially, it will sell takeout items such as chicken fingers, French fries and popcorn, and later pizza in the shape of hockey sticks will be offered, Colby said during Wednesday’s meeting. There will be two separate areas, one for adults and one for children. There will be hockey-themed prizes and the games will be played with chips.

Colby said no major renovations are needed and that they will be mostly changing the decor. She doesn’t know when they will be ready to open, but hopes to open in early 2025.

Colby, whose young daughters both play hockey locally, said her friends and teammates are looking forward to visiting the rink.

“They can’t wait to have a place where all the families can come together, have a great time, hang out, eat and enjoy each other’s company,” Said Colby.

The audit committee has agreed to arrange an on-site inspection. The neighbors of the property will be notified.

According to documents from the audit committee, the lease of the former tenants ends on September 30. It is unclear whether the Mito Japanese Steakhouse is closing or moving. The owners could not be reached by the deadline.

The board also approved new signs for Darrah Cooper Jewelers and Burnham Benefit Advisors on Wednesday.
