One of Houston’s longest-running Mediterranean restaurants will soon open its first new location in over 40 years. Hungry will be his new Tanglewood Location on Monday, August 19th.

Located at 5750 Woodway Dr., Hungry’s has taken over portions of three former restaurants to create a space large enough to accommodate guests from Tanglewood, Briargrove and the Memorial Villages who want to enjoy Hungry’s fresh, Mediterranean-inspired fare. The main dining room, approximately 6,000 square feet in size, was created by combining spaces that formerly housed Le Peep and Skeeter’s. A private dining room, which can also be used for additional seating, is located in the space that formerly housed Barnaby’s.

The restaurant also features an indoor and outdoor bar and a spacious, dog-friendly patio. Design details include gold lighting, a wood accent wall and banquet seating.

Taken together, that means plenty of space for eating, drinking and socializing. Established in 1975, Hungry’s extensive menu includes pizza, salads, sandwiches, kebabs, gyros and more for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. To keep up with contemporary tastes, guests will also find a selection of plant-based dishes imported from Turnipa sister restaurant located next to Hungry’s on Memorial Drive.

The restaurant is owned by the Nowamooz and Sharifi families, who also apply their expertise to the fast-growing Local table restaurant brand. While chef Sue Nowamooz and her husband Ashkan (the nephew of Hungry’s founder Fred Sharifi) remain involved, their daughter Nousha is also involved in her role as vice president of development.

“Our family has put their heart and soul into this concept, so given Houston’s vibrant restaurant scene, it’s incredibly humbling to have had the support of the community for over 50 years,” Nousha said in a statement. “It’s this support that has allowed us to capitalize on our success and bring Hungry’s to one of Houston’s most desirable neighborhoods.”

Once open, the restaurant will serve lunch, dinner and brunch. Hungry’s classics like catering and in-house delivery will also be available. The restaurant opens at 11am Monday through Friday and 9am Saturday and Sunday.
