Houston Taco Shop La Calle temporarily closes after devastating fire

Houston taco shop La Calle has temporarily closed its Ella Boulevard location after suffering significant damage from a fire, according to a press release.

The fire broke out at 4:30 p.m. at 3321 Ella Boulevard and was caused by a malfunction of the kitchen range hood, according to fire officials. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

The restaurant will remain closed for repairs until further notice and the owners are making preparations to relocate staff to the Downtown and Bagby locations. La Calle, known for its Mexico City-style street tacos, breakfast tacos, elotes and dishes, also has a location in the East River area.

This is the second disaster to hit the business in the last two years. In January 2023, an electrical fire broke out in the restaurant, which closed the restaurant for almost a year.

Owner Ramon Soriano, who owns all four locations of La Calle and La Diabla Retro Bar, said in a statement he was shocked and devastated.

“I couldn’t believe this was happening to another one of my restaurants,” Soriano said. “I’m so thankful my team was safe, and we are all incredibly grateful to the Houston Fire Department, who were at La Calle within two minutes of the first call to 9-1-1 to put out the fire and prevent further damage.”

Soriana said the restaurant’s reconstruction and recovery will take some time, but the team at La Calle will be working around the clock to get the restaurant back up and running.
