If you want to run Minecraft mods on your server, you’ll need to install mod loaders that allow you to customize the game world and content. Two of the most popular mod loaders are Forge and Fabric. We’ve already covered how to download and install Forge if you’re interested, but this guide is dedicated to Fabric, so let’s learn how to install Fabric and its mods, and how to run them in the latest Minecraft 1.21 update.

How to Download Fabric for Minecraft

Follow the simple step-by-step instructions below to download and install Fabric in Minecraft 1.21:

• Visit the official Fabric download page via the link.
• Then click on “Download Universal JAR” to download the file. This is a better way than using the button above as it ensures that everything is set up correctly for Java.

How to install Fabric for Minecraft

After downloading the file, follow these steps to install Fabric so you can play with compatible mods:

• Locate the downloaded Fabric installation file and double-click it to open it. Make sure you Java must be installed on your PC before attempting to install Fabric. Visit this link to get the latest Java version.
• Once the Fabric Installer is open, select “Minecraft version“ Run it and click the Install button below.

• Once the installation is complete, a pop-up message will appear informing you Fabric API Mod required to install various other mods.
• So visit this CurseForge page linked here. Then find the latest version file and download it manually by clicking on the three dots icon and then clicking on the “Download File” option.

How to download and install Minecraft Fabric Mods

Now that you have Fabric up and running, you can install and use Fabric mods. Let’s see the steps to install the mods:

First, you should Find the Fabric Mods you want to install. Check out some of the best Minecraft Fabric mods in our dedicated list. Visit sites like CurseForge and find the mod you like. Go to Files tab and locate the latest Fabric file. If the mod doesn’t have Fabric files, it means it is not compatible with Fabric and you will need Forge or another mod loader to run it. Make sure you download the correct file or it won’t work.

Now open Minecraft Launcher. Go to the Installations tab at the top and make sure the Modified box in the top right corner is checked. You should see Fabric Loader here. If not, you can create a new installation with Fabric Loader as the game version.

Hover over the Fabric installation and click the Folder icon on the right side. This will open the main Minecraft folder.

The next step is to Create the mods folder if you don’t have it already. Just create a new folder in that location and name it “mods”.

When the mods folder is ready, Drag and drop the downloaded modsincluding Fabric API, into this folder. Mod files compatible with different loaders don’t seem to cause any problems, so you can keep all the files in this mods folder. And with that, you have successfully installed new Fabric mods and can use them.

How to use fabric mods in Minecraft

Once you have added mods to the mods folder, go back to the Minecraft Launcher. In the Play section, make sure the Fabric Loader is selected and click on “Play“ to start the game. There is no section that lists all the mods you have installed, so you will need to create a new world to manually check if everything is working.

If a mod is incompatible with your version of Fabric or requires you to install a specific mod first, you will receive a message before Minecraft loads.
