How to save money when shopping for the back to school

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Parents are preparing to send their children back to school, which means back-to-school shopping is in full swing.

According to a recent survey by NerdWalletParents plan to spend an average of about $540 on school supplies.

For many parents, shopping can be overwhelming and expensive. Fortunately, there are several ways to save money.

One way is to look at what’s already at home; some supplies from last year may still be reusable. Bulk shopping can also be helpful, especially if you’re splitting the cost with other parents. Looking for special deals is also a helpful way to save, as most major stores are currently offering special back-to-school prices.

Target is a store that hosts sales where teachers can get a one-time 20% off until August 24. College students can get a one-time 20% off until September 28. Other students can purchase items from the 20 for $20 list, a list of popular items that are worth $20 together.

“Customers are more conscious about their money and we want to make it easy and affordable for them,” said Target CEO Rochelle Bouler. “That’s why we offer a lot of coupons, a lot of discounts and special offers in the stores.”

Most store websites also allow customers to search for their child’s school and access the shopping list, and several giveaways are scheduled to help families who can’t afford school supplies.
