The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox will play the second game of their four-game series at Yankees Stadium on Friday night.

The game starts at 7:00 a.m. EDT and you can watch it on Apple+.

Tanner Houck (8-10, 3.24 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 150 strikeouts) will start for the Red Sox and Clarke Schmidt (5-3, 2.34 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 69 strikeouts) will start for the Yankees.

New York is at its best at the perfect time of year.

They won 2-1 in 10 innings on Thursday night thanks to an RBI single by Juan Soto.

With pinch-runner Jon Berti on second base as the automatic runner, Soto hit a single off Josh Winckowski just past the glove of diving shortstop Trevor Story, and Berti slid home ahead of center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela’s throw to give the Yankees two consecutive walk-off wins for the first time in three years.

New York (85-62, first in the AL East) won for the fifth time in seven games to extend its two-game lead in the AL East over second-place Baltimore (83-64), the Yankees’ largest lead since the game before Aug. 27. The Yankees have won seven straight opening games.

They are winning despite their best hitter being in a slump. Aaron Judge, who leads the major leagues with 51 home runs and 126 RBIs, hit 1 for 4 with a single and has a batting average of .207 (12 for 58) with 21 strikeouts since August 26. His homeless streak has reached 16 games.

Gleyber Torres was responsible for the Yankees’ other run when he hit a home run against Cooper Criswell in the first inning.

Danny Jansen of the Red Sox hit a home run off Nestor Cortes in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game. Jansen, who was signed from Toronto in late July, hit his third home run for Boston and his first since Aug. 10.

Boston (74-73, third in the AL East) Boston lost 4 1/2 games to Minnesota (78-68) and secured the last AL wild card.

The encounter on Friday is the 11th time this season. The season score is 5:5.
