A man has revealed he gave up his expensive London flat to live in a storage unit, saying it was the best decision he ever made.

Si had lived in the capital for six years when he decided he was fed up with paying £800 a month to live in a tiny room.

He was determined to live as cheaply as possible to get out of debt.

“I was paying exorbitant rent and it was a dirty, horrible place,” he said in a video posted on his YouTube channel @lifeofsi.

To reduce his expenses, Si decided to spend £7,250 on a van.

He then rented a parking space on church property for £150 and set up camp there.

When he bought the van it was empty, but he put a mattress and a pillow in it and turned it into a home.

After moving into the van, his monthly costs fell from £1,000 to £250, Si said.

Si explained that the van had no electricity or insulation and that he struggled through the winter, when temperatures sometimes dropped to -5 degrees.

“There was no heating or anything, I literally had candles for light,” he said.

With all the money Si saved on rent, he outfitted his van, and it’s now much bigger than the tiny storage unit he used to live in.

He added that he was happy that he no longer had to share the kitchen and bathroom with five roommates, as was the case in his old apartment.

After saving for 18 months, he decided to quit his 9-5 job and is now traveling the world in his van.

“It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it,” he said while relaxing in the sun in Montenegro.

“I made some sacrifices and now I am on top of the world.”

Sis’ girlfriend also travels around with him in the van, and the two make YouTube videos to inspire others to get rid of the rat Race and do the same.

“I want to help people to be free and happy and do what they want in life,” he said.

“So, I did it to break out of the rat race. You can do it too.”
