People were hysterical after a young woman had the most amusing shopping experience of her life while visiting a plus-size mall in Thailand.

The comedian, who wears a size 10, had to resort to shopping at a special mall in Bangkok because she could not find suitable clothes in regular stores.

“This is the first time in my life that I’ve been considered plus size. B****, I’m a size 34 (Australian 40), but here in Asia that’s considered ‘fat’, that’s big,” the woman said.

“So I had to go to a certain mall to do some shopping – and all I can say is that the mall was hilarious.”

In the mall, the traveler was confronted with the following “crazy” store names: Love Calories, FitFat, Fat Boys, Fat Girls, Chubby, Big Girl and Fatty Fatgirl.

“When you first come in, they hit you with ‘Bam’! They don’t care about political correctness… When you’re big, you’re big,” the comedian said amusedly.

After recovering from the shock, she was surprised to find that the huge selection of clothes was “mind-blowing” (really good) – and the clothes only cost about $10 a piece.

“If you are plus size, you have to come to Thailand to shop,” the American added.

People laughed their heads off when they saw stores like Fat Girls in the Thai plus-size mall

Big Girl is also located in the plus size shopping mall in Bangkok

“There is nothing passive-aggressive here, only aggressive,” said one woman about the hilariously named plus-size stores in a Thai mall.

People reacting to the video couldn’t hold back their laughter, and many could hardly believe the “wild” store names.

“But why is it all in English? They’re shooting straight at the goal,” said one man.

“There is nothing passive-aggressive here, just aggressive,” another chimed in.

Middle-sized Westerners who also had problems buying clothes in Asia were quick to share their own experiences.

A 170 cm tall, 70 kg woman tried to indulge in a little retail therapy while visiting the Thai capital during her honeymoon.

A woman from Bangkok explained the “crazy” shop names by saying that Thais do not have the same “negative associations” with overweight people as we do in the West.

“I went into a store and the shop owner yelled, ‘No, no, too big – too long.’ That was ten years ago and my husband still yells it at me sometimes,” she said.

Another woman, who is also considered plus-size in Japan, said that every time she came out of the dressing room of a Japanese department store dressed in something that fit, all the employees burst into loud applause.

An expat living in Bangkok explained the cultural divide by saying that Thais do not have the same “negative connotations” towards overweight people as we do in the West and that it is not offensive to them to call someone “fat”.

People who were seduced by cheap fashion in Asia were not sure whether they could cope with the unpleasant experience of buying clothes there.

“They would come out with the cutest clothes, but need recommendations for an addiction therapist,” one woman said.

“Let’s meet before Love Calories,” joked another.
