Illinois Uber driver allegedly damaged family’s home and car after receiving only one star

CHICAGO– An Illinois woman said her home and car were damaged following an altercation with an Uber driver, a day after her son gave the driver only one star.

The resident said she was still shaken days after the altercation, which left her home damaged, including a broken window, and her car scratched and dented.

“I’m really traumatized. I haven’t really slept,” the woman said.

Her identity is not being disclosed because she is concerned for the safety of her family.

She said her 17-year-old son took an Uber to Orland Square Mall in Orland Park, Illinois, on Friday.

Her son, whose identity is also unknown, said the driver appeared agitated, drove erratically and ignored his recommendation to take the expressway, driving instead on country roads.

“I just wanted to get to the mall within a certain time, and he decided to take the longer route to the mall,” he said.

The teen said he gave the driver only one star after he was dropped off. His mother said the next day a man she didn’t know knocked on her front door.

“The guy said, ‘I picked someone up from this house and they left something behind.’ And I knew it didn’t belong to anyone from this house,” she said.

The mother stated that she refused to open the door, whereupon the man became angry and aggressive and yelled at her about the classification.

“Ultimately, someone should have the right to a review,” she said. “It’s based on opinions. If you have one star, you have one star.”

She said the man turned to leave, but not before grabbing a brick and throwing it at her window and her car. No one was physically hurt, but the family said they were shaken.

“When I come home where my mother, my brother and I are sleeping, it’s scary,” the teenager said.

In a statement, an Uber spokesperson said: “The behavior described is unacceptable. We continue to investigate this report and will take appropriate action. We stand ready to assist the police where we can.”

The woman said she went to the local police station to report the incident and the station confirmed that a report had been filed.
