ANDERSONVILLE – An Andersonville pizzeria is riddled with bullet holes after a man was shot and injured inside the restaurant Monday night.

Qua Ngyuen, the owner of Primo Pizza at 5600 N. Clark Street, was cooking behind the counter of his pizzeria around 9 p.m. Monday when a group of men came in and started arguing with a man who was already inside the shop, he and police said.

Suddenly, Ngyuen heard gunshots and ducked to the ground behind the restaurant counter, he said. He called 911 and police arrived minutes later.

A 22-year-old man was shot in the leg during the argument, police said. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was listed in fair condition.

“I’m lucky that I’m OK,” Ngyuen told Block Club on Tuesday.

Primo Pizza had to close an hour early on Monday after the shooting, but was open as usual on Tuesday, Ngyuen said.

There are several bullet holes in a window that Ngyuen covered with small posters, as well as bullet holes in the door, in one of the kitchen cabinets, and on the side of a trash can.

Something like this has never happened in his restaurant before, and Ngyuen is still not sure why it happened, he said.

Officials said police had not arrested anyone in connection with the shooting as of Tuesday afternoon.
