In July, police were called to the Cairo Restaurant & Bar three times

FARGO, ND (Valley News Live) – At the Fargo Liquor Control Board meeting on Wednesday, August 21, Fargo Police announced they are keeping an eye on the new Cairo Restaurant and Bar.

In the police department’s monthly report, Captain Matt Christensen stated that officers were dispatched to the Cairo Restaurant and Bar three times in July.

Police say the problems they responded to last month include disagreements over management, people bringing their own bottles of alcohol and serving drinks after 2:00 a.m.

“People are bringing their own alcohol and leaving drinks on the table after two o’clock. Most bar owners, actually 99 percent, take this very seriously when they start turning people out, drinks are being taken off the table and alcohol is no longer being served. Even if they do that, I think that’s a really dangerous situation,” said Robert Nelson, a member of the Liquor Control Board.

Fargo Police Captain Matt Christensen said they agree and are keeping a close eye on Cairo to make sure owners and managers are aware of the regulations.

The regulation states that food can be served in Cairo after 2:00 a.m., but alcohol can no longer be served after that.

A Fargo police officer was assigned as a liaison for the restaurant.

When the liquor license was granted last October, there was much discussion due to problems with previous nightclubs at that location – including the Summit Night Club and the Africa International Restaurant and Night Club.

At the time, Cairo’s owner insisted that her business be run as a restaurant and bar, not a nightclub.
