Injury shock for the New England Patriots before the game against the Cincinnati Bengals

The New England Patriots are preparing for their season opener on Sunday afternoon against the Cincinnati Bengals. They are looking to pull off an upset win.

This weekend marks the beginning of a new era in football. Jerod Mayo and the newly formed Patriots will leave the days of Bill Belichick behind. This is an emotional change for the fans, but it also brings new excitement.

That being said, New England suffered an injury scare heading into their Week 1 game, and they may end up having to play without their primary backup running back.

On Thursday, running back Antonio Gibson was added to the injured list. He is battling a hip injury.

Gibson was joined by Vederian Lowe, who was also limited in training due to an abdominal injury. Sidy Sow was also unable to take to the field due to an ankle injury.

Gibson was signed as a free agent this season and is expected to play a key role in the backfield behind Rhamondre Stevenson. He is currently listed as the primary backup running back.

Gibson was once the star back for the Washington Commanders. He has given up that role over the past two years, but he has done enough to show great potential when he has been needed.

During his four-year career with the Commanders, Gibson played in 61 games. He carried the football 642 times for 2,643 yards and 22 touchdowns. Gibson also caught 172 passes for 1,283 yards and seven touchdowns.

Hopefully he can play at the beginning of the season. He will play an important role in keeping Stevenson fresh. Right now there is some doubt about whether he can play for the Bengals.

There will certainly be more updates coming in the near future and we will make sure to provide them as soon as possible.
