‘Intimidating’ man kicked police officers after making sexual comments to store employees

A man who made sexual comments to staff in a Peterborough shop and then kicked a police officer has been ordered to pay compensation.

Ryan Morgan, 37, behaved aggressively and abusively towards staff who served him at the Black Sheep Coffee Shop in Queensgate Shopping Centre on May 1.

The police were called and his hostile behaviour continued. He attempted to spit and shout abuse at the officers before kicking one of them in the hand as they took him to a police van.

Morgan, of Fengate, Peterborough, admitted two counts of threatening behaviour with intent to harass, cause fear or distress, assaulting an emergency medical worker by beating him and possession of cannabis.

He was sentenced to 150 hours’ unpaid work and ordered to pay £50 compensation to a shop worker and £75 compensation to the police officer at Peterborough Magistrates Court on Wednesday (31 July).

PC Niamh Skipworth, who investigated the case, said: “Morgan’s intimidating and violent behaviour was completely unacceptable and no one should have to experience anything like this in the workplace.”

“We are tackling retail crime such as violence against employees, but we need reports from businesses to investigate and identify those involved.”
