Investigation report released on illegal use of tanker trucks to transport cooking oil – Xinhua

BEIJING, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — An official investigation report released on Sunday has revealed the illegal facts in the reported cases of coal liquefaction tankers being used to transport cooking oil.

The report published by the Food Safety Commission of the State Council of China also examines the whereabouts of the transported cooking oil and identifies the responsibility of the companies and individuals concerned.

It states that the public security agency will file criminal charges against the two drivers involved and take criminal precautionary measures in accordance with the law.

Five people, including the owners of the two tankers, are being investigated by the relevant departments and their cases will be handed over to the police on suspicion of criminal activities.

Three other persons will be sentenced to an administrative penalty of ten days’ imprisonment in accordance with the law.

According to the investigation report, seven companies face administrative sanctions, including fines and confiscation of illicit profits.

Since the tankers are registered in Xingtai City, Hebei Province, the local disciplinary inspection authority will step in and investigate possible derelictions of duty and omissions by officials.

The report was prepared after a joint investigation team comprising officials from public security, transportation, market regulation and other agencies completed joint investigations in Hebei, Tianjin, Inner Mongolia and Shaanxi.

It states that, based on a nationwide investigation, no comparable problems have been identified elsewhere.
