It looks like the PlayStation Store is testing a user rating feature

Currently, the PlayStation Store has a simple rating system that allows players to rate games listed digitally on the store on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. However, it looks like PlayStation is testing an even more sophisticated system that will allow users to write written reviews of games and then publish them on the store, similar to what you see on Steam.

The discovery was sparked by Reddit user “cusman78,” who posted a screenshot of the review menu on the PlayStation subreddit he had access to and asked if others knew when this had been possible.

From what we can gather from the ensuing chatter on the message boards among those who had access, it seems that the feature is only available to select users who received an email specifically inviting them to rate a game they logged time on with their account. If you visit a game’s page from the console or a regular browser, you won’t yet have the option to leave a review, nor will you be able to read any reviews that have already been left, unless you came to the page via one of the invite links. For those who may Access is currently only available for digitally purchased games and can only be done via a web browser.

Since the feature appears to still be in testing, it’s hard to say when it will be fully rolled out – or if it will be rolled out at all. User reviews can be a good way to gauge general sentiment towards a game outside of professional, critical reviews, but they also open the door to malicious activity and “review bombing” practices. Emailing specific users who have invested a reasonable amount of time into a title and inviting them to review it is not without its problems, but could be a viable solution, so maybe that’s the end result here.

Once I get an email asking me to review Balatro on the PlayStation Store, I guess we’ll know that the 200 hours I invested were worth it.
