Jaguars experts explain how the Jaguars must perform to beat the Bills in Week 3

JACKSONVILLE – Each week during the 2024 season, the Jaguars’ “experts” – Frank Frangie, Jeff Lageman, Brent Martineau, John Oehser, Brian Sexton, JP Shadrick and Kainani Stevens – will analyze the Jaguars’ game the following day.

This week: The Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, NY

Frank Frangie, radio voice of the Jaguars

  • The Jaguars win if: They’re finding some rhythm on offense. It’s been a struggle so far. That’s partly because they’re getting wide receiver Christian Kirk more involved than they have in the past. This could be a track and field contest; you have to keep up. And they have to keep up with the solid defense. The defense kept the Jags in the game, but this is a big challenge.
  • The Bills win if: Their defensive line creates chaos, as it did with the Dolphins and Browns, and when Allen gets going, he makes plays that don’t go according to plan.
  • Frangie sees it this way: The Bills are really good. And they’re playing at home. The Jags are struggling. It’s a good week to play their best game.

Jeff Lageman, Jaguars analyst and former Jaguars defensive end

  • The Jaguars win if: They’re eliminating the mistakes that plagued them the first two weeks. Everyone – and I mean everyone – needs to do better on offense, and that has to start with quarterback Trevor Lawrence. To raise the level of play of the players around you … you have to do better than him first.
  • The Bills win if: They continue to win the battle to win the ball, and Allen protects the ball. In the first two games, the Bills have scored 24 points from four turnovers, and Allen has yet to throw an interception.
  • Lageman sees it this way: This is a tough game in an extremely loud environment with the Bills Mafia. Monday night will be a real blast at Orchard Park. Lawrence and the offense will need to focus and be determined to handle the crowd noise. The Jaguars offensive line will be challenged across the board as Buffalo has a talented squad. Allen will also challenge the Jaguars defense with his legs. The Jags will play a lot of man coverage and defensive end Josh Hines Allen and Co. will need to keep him in check.

Brent Martineau, Sports Director of Action Sports Jax

  • The Jaguars win if: They score 27 or more points. The Jaguars haven’t scored 27 points since the Cleveland game in early December of last season, and have only scored 21 or more points once since that game. This offense needs to get on track and dictate the flow of the game.
  • The Bills win if: They control the Jaguars’ running game. If the Bills force the Jags to run long distances, they can exploit the weakness of the offensive line and force possible turnovers.
  • Martineau sees it this way: If you like recent trends, the Jaguars have done well against the Bills. Recent trends also show us that the Jaguars are working on their offense. I think the Jaguars will play well on Monday Night Football, but I don’t think it will be enough to beat a well-playing Bills team. Buffalo will win 27-24.
