Ja’Marr Chase clarifies contract negotiations with the Cincinnati Bengals

CINCINNATI — Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase spoke for more than 10 minutes in front of his locker for the first time since January.

The 24-year-old wanted to make one thing clear: He has not contacted the Bengals about a contract extension.

“I have neither asked for nor demanded a contract this year,” Chase said before answering questions.

The three-time Pro Bowler said the Bengals front office contacted him in the offseason about a possible contract extension.

There are less than 48 hours until the start of the 2024 season and he still doesn’t have a contract. What are the chances that they will agree to an extension now?

“I don’t know, man, the chances are slim,” Chase said. “For me, today was the deadline.”

Chase left open the possibility that something could happen between now and Sunday’s game against the Patriots, but didn’t sound optimistic. After not practicing throughout training camp, he returned to the practice field this week, calling himself a “game-time decision” and adding that he is 100% healthy.
