JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Parks and Recreation District has announced the launch of its Adopt-A-Park/Trail program.

The aim of the initiative is to encourage the public to support the preservation and improvement of Jamestown’s valuable green spaces.

The Adopt-A-Park program invites local residents, businesses, community organizations, church groups and more to take an active role in maintaining and beautifying the Parks and Recreation District’s parks. Program participants commit to regular cleanups, removing trash and debris, assisting with minor repairs and improvements, and identifying and reporting safety hazards to the Parks and Recreation District.

In return, adopters receive recognition for their contributions to their respective park, fostering a sense of pride and ownership of our public spaces, the Parks and Recreation District said in a press release.

“At Gate City Bank, we are committed to investing in our communities and giving back through volunteerism,” Gate City Bank, a park sponsor, said in a press release. “The Adopt a Park program aligns perfectly with our mission and is a fun way for us to get outside and give back to our community. By keeping our parks clean, we hope to invite and encourage our community to take advantage of the outdoor recreation opportunities that parks can provide. The team at Gate City Bank enjoyed keeping Nickeus Park clean for the public this summer and we look forward to continuing our efforts in the future.”

Jamestown Parks and Recreation offers a total of 20 parks, trails and facilities for adoption by others.

“Parks are the heart of our community, providing a place for recreation, relaxation and connection with nature,” said Amy Walters, executive director of the Parks and Recreation District. “We believe that by working together, we can ensure that these vital resources are well maintained and enjoyable for all.”

Currently three parks are being taken over:

• Meidinger Park is taken over by the High Plains Association of REALTORS.
• Nickeus Park is taken over by Gate City Bank.
• The flower beds in McElroy Park are being taken over by Daydreams and Bar V Ranch.

“The High Plains Association of REALTORS is excited to partner with Jamestown Parks and Rec Adopt-A-Park,” said the High Plains Association of REALTORS Engagement Committee. “This program gives our members and business partners the opportunity to work together to beautify our parks and show our commitment to the Jamestown community. We really enjoyed doing the landscaping project around the sign in Meidinger Park this spring. It looks so beautiful.”

Jill Trygg, a volunteer who maintains the flowerbeds at McElroy Park, said everyone benefits by helping to keep the parks “clean, safe and beautiful.”

“It’s important to me that Jamestown looks its best for both residents and visitors, and by volunteering with JPRD’s Adopt-a-Park program, I can help make that happen while doing something I enjoy,” she said. “Community parks are the heart of our community – that’s where all the action is, especially this time of year.”

The Jamestown Parks and Recreation District encourages all residents to consider adopting a park or trail and thus actively contribute to improving the city’s green spaces.

“Together we can cultivate a culture of stewardship, foster a sense of community pride and preserve our outdoor destinations for generations to come,” the district said.
