Jason Robertson of the Dallas Stars was named the sixth best winger in the league by the NHL Network

There is no doubt that Jason Robertson has established himself as one of the top players in the National Hockey League, and NHL Network agrees.

The network released its list of the NHL’s 20 best wingers last week, and the Dallas Stars left winger came in at number 6.

The 25-year-old scored 80 points and 29 goals in 82 regular season games last season and helped lead the Stars to the Western Conference finals.

“Statistically, my year wasn’t as good as last year. But our team was so strong and played so well that it didn’t really matter,” Robertson said in an interview with NHL Network. “I was able to make a huge impact regardless of my stats.”

‘Break convention’: North Texans of Filipino descent say they are inspired by Jason Robertson

Robertson surpassed the 100-point mark in the 2022-23 season, but still led the Stars in points, assists and power play points last regular season and led the team to the playoffs again.

“Being on a team like last year and even the year before, it’s definitely a relief when one line isn’t running and you have the luxury of three others running,” he said.

Nikita Kucherov, Matthew Tkachuk, Mikko Rantanen, David Pastrnak and Artemi Panarin finished ahead of Robertson on the list, which includes a number of major NHL awards. Robertson says his patience has helped him succeed in the league and that it fits well with the Stars’ system.

“Even as a junior, I thought I was more of an intellectual player, trying to understand where the game is going, where it should go. Not only do I have to move as fast as I can, but I have to be smart, I have to know where the puck is going and I have to really try to use my skills to the fullest,” he said.

Still, Robertson isn’t satisfied. He’s inspired by the longevity and leadership of the recently retired Joe Pavelski, and of course Dallas is still in the hunt for the Stanley Cup. There is one thing he’s determined to improve, however.

“I always wanted to try to work on my one-timer.”
