Jazz Chisholm injury update: Yankees announce official diagnosis and place star on injured list

As part of the roster changes announced on Wednesday, the New York Yankees officially announced the injury that will keep their star Jazz Chisholm off the field for an indefinite period of time.

The Yankees have officially placed Chisholm on the 10-day injured list for reportedly spraining his left elbow.

This seems better than the worst-case scenario, according to which Chisholm may have injured his ACL when he slipped on home base during Monday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox.

Despite the official diagnosis, there is no timetable for Chisholm’s return. He was surprisingly optimistic that it would not be a long-term injury, but that was before tests were conducted in the days following the initial setback.

Despite the small number of games played (14), Chisholm was a key part of the Yankees’ starting lineup, bringing the necessary energy, speed and power that had been missing over the past two months.

In the 14 games since the big trade before the July 30 deadline, Chisholm posted a batting average of .316/.361/.702 with an OPS+ of 189, seven home runs, 11 RBIs and five stolen bases in 61 at-bats.

His put-the-team-first attitude when he suddenly moved to third base was a welcome addition, and he seemed to be making progress in handling the hot corner, except for a few plays.

While the Yankees could consider an experienced player outside the organization to replace Chisholm, they recalled Oswald Peraza from Triple-A as part of Wednesday’s roster changes.
