JD Vance sharply criticized Taylor Swift after the singer endorsed Kamala Harris following the vice presidential debate against Donald Trump. Taylor supported the vice president in a long post and signed off as “Childless Cat Lady.”

“We admire Taylor Swift’s music, but I don’t think most Americans – whether they like her music or are fans of her or not – are going to be influenced by a billionaire celebrity who, in my opinion, is fundamentally out of touch with the interests and issues of most Americans,” Vance told Fox News’ “The Story.”

“Look, when food prices go up 20%, it affects most Americans. It doesn’t affect Taylor Swift. When housing prices become unaffordable, it doesn’t affect Taylor Swift or any other billionaire. It affects middle class Americans across the country,” he added.

Taylor Swift’s support

Swift, meanwhile, supported Harris, writing on Instagram alongside a photo of her holding a cat: “I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes that I believe need a fighter to represent them. I find her to be a calm, gifted leader and believe we can accomplish so much more in this country when we are led by calm, not chaos. I was so encouraged and impressed by her choice of her running mate @timwalz, who has been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women’s rights to their own bodies for decades.”

“Childless cat lady” was a reference to something Vance had said in the past. In an interview with Tucker Carlson that recently resurfaced, he said, “We are essentially run in this country – through the Democratic Party, through our corporate oligarchs – by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are unhappy with their own lives and the choices they’ve made, and therefore want to make the rest of the country unhappy, too.”

“If you look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg and AOC, the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children,” he added.
