New York Jets rookie running back Braelon Allen has gotten off to a strong start this season, leading some fans to question how he made it to the fourth round of the 2024 draft.

Allen responded cheekily on social media on Friday, saying that potential teams “wanted to see him run in his underwear” during the pre-draft process:

After three years in Wisconsin, Allen received a junior grade of 6.10 from NFL.comwho projected him as a “good backup with the potential to develop into a starter.” His pre-draft rating was likely hurt by his production dropping to 984 rushing yards in his junior year after impressing with 1,268 and 1,242 yards in his freshman and sophomore years, respectively. However, the Badgers implemented a new offense in his junior year, which undoubtedly contributed to his performance.

Allen wasted no time in proving his prognosticators wrong, as he has been one of New York’s most influential players over the past two weeks. The 20-year-old, the youngest player in the NFL, scored his first touchdown on a pass from Aaron Rodgers and ran in the opening score in the fourth quarter of the Jets’ Week 2 win over the Tennessee Titans.

Allen was named AFC Rookie of the Week and had a team-best 55 yards rushing performance in Thursday night’s win over the New England Patriots. He has impressed with his ability to run despite physical contact and punish defenders whenever he touches the ball.

The Jets appear to have found a gem in Allen, who fell in the fourth round of the draft. He and third-year star Breece Hall form one of the NFL’s most promising backfield duos.

New York (2-1) is looking for its third straight win against the Denver Broncos in Week 4, and Allen is expected to continue to play an important role in the offense.
