Jets spread the wealth in home opener win against Patriots

By this point, Allen Lazard had come back to the forefront, scoring first with his 10-yard touchdown catch-and-run, Mike Williams set new game records for the Jets with three catches for 34 yards, and even returner Xavier Gipson made it into the practice game stats with two catches for 16 yards.

And where were the Jets’ tight ends? They helped dismantle the Patriots’ defense. Tyler Conklin actually caught 93 yards on his five passes, which was a game-leading and career-high. Four of those were for first downs and three were for third downs.

“I think as a group we control what we can control,” said Conklin, whose group included Jeremy Ruckert and his first two catches of the season. “We go out there and try our best to help our team succeed, whatever that means, in the running game or the passing game. And tonight we happened to get a couple of targets and we’re pretty happy about it.”

“Conk, he’s a dog, man,” Wlson said. “He deserves everything he did today and everything he’s got to do, because the world doesn’t know. When you see him out there and just do what he does, people see it and think he did something extraordinary. No, that’s Tyler. That’s how he plays and he’s got a lot more to give.”

Then there were no touchdowns for the B&B boys, but running backs Breece Hall and rookie Braelon Allen combined for the most offensive actions in a game (34) and 151 scrimmage yards, which doesn’t compare to their 30 touches for 170 yards in Tennessee.

“I felt like we had a good rhythm,” Allen told Eric Allen and Quincy Enunwa on the Jets Overtime broadcast that aired after the game on newyorkjets.com. “Everyone was kind of playing along and we were in a good flow and playing complementary football. The more we can run the ball, the more opportunities there are for the passing game.”
