Jetstar passenger arrested on Melbourne Airport tarmac after opening plane door and walking onto wing | Jetstar

A Jetstar passenger opened the emergency exit door after a plane landed at Melbourne Airport and then walked along the wing before being intercepted by ground staff.

A Jetstar spokesman said the plane, which had arrived in Melbourne from Sydney, was parked at the time.

“The passenger exited the aircraft through the emergency exit and walked along the wing before descending to the ground over the engine,” the spokesman said.

Sky News reported that the man paced back and forth before opening the exit while flight attendants and passengers urged him to sit down.

The passenger was arrested by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and the remaining passengers left the aircraft shortly afterwards.

An AFP spokesman said the man was examined by paramedics and taken to hospital for further examination.

The spokesman said the man was arrested for alleged aggressive behavior and violating flight safety protocols.

“AFP continues to investigate this case and it is likely that charges will be filed at a later date,” they said.

A passenger posted on X that he was approached on the tarmac after exiting the plane.

A Melbourne Airport spokesman confirmed to AFP that the man was detained and arrested by staff.

“Melbourne Airport is proud of the exceptional response of ground staff, which resulted in no immediate danger to other passengers or airport staff,” the spokesman said.
